Fuel and air metering
P0106 — Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Range/Performance
The MAP sensor reading is not plausible compared with other signals such as throttle position, engine speed or barometric pressure. The ECU cannot judge engine load correctly.
Common causes
- Vacuum leak or cracked intake hose
- Clogged or leaking vacuum line to the MAP sensor
- Faulty MAP sensor
- Restricted exhaust or clogged catalytic converter
- EGR valve stuck open
Symptoms
- Rough idle
- Hesitation and weak power
- Poor fuel economy
- Check engine light
How to check
- Inspect the vacuum hose to the MAP sensor and all intake connections
- Compare MAP reading with key on engine off (should equal barometric pressure)
- Check the idle vacuum and look for exhaust restriction
- Test or replace the sensor if the values stay implausible
Can you keep driving?
Usually drivable but with poor performance. Repair it soon to avoid fuel waste and stalling.

Frequently asked questions
- What does P0106 mean?
- The MAP sensor value does not fit with the other engine data, so the ECU doubts its reading.
- How do I check a MAP sensor reading?
- With ignition on and engine off, it should read close to the local barometric pressure; at idle it drops to a low value.
General reference information. It does not replace a diagnosis on your own vehicle. The same code can have different causes depending on make, model year and engine; check the manufacturer's documentation or ask a technician with a scan tool.
