P0108 — Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit High Input

The MAP sensor signal voltage is higher than normal. The ECU sees very high intake pressure, so it may enrich the mixture and cut performance.

Severity: Medium

Common causes

  • Faulty MAP sensor
  • Signal wire shorted to voltage
  • Open sensor ground
  • Clogged or restricted vacuum line
  • Connector damage

Symptoms

  • Rich mixture and black smoke
  • Poor fuel economy
  • Rough running
  • Check engine light

How to check

  1. Inspect the connector and wiring for a short to voltage
  2. Check the sensor ground and 5 V reference
  3. Check the vacuum line for clogging
  4. Replace the sensor if it still reads high

Can you keep driving?

Drivable in the short term, but a rich mixture wastes fuel and stresses the catalytic converter.

Frequently asked questions

What does P0108 mean?
The MAP sensor is sending a voltage above its normal range.
Is P0108 caused by a vacuum leak?
Usually a vacuum leak lowers or confuses the reading; P0108 more often comes from the sensor, its ground or a shorted wire.
