P0112 — Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Low

The intake air temperature (IAT) sensor signal is lower than the normal range, which the ECU reads as extremely hot intake air. Fuel and timing corrections are then slightly off.

Severity: Low

Common causes

  • Faulty IAT sensor
  • Signal wire shorted to ground
  • Damaged connector or wiring
  • Water in the sensor connector
  • Faulty MAF sensor with built-in IAT

Symptoms

  • Slightly rough idle
  • Higher fuel consumption
  • Hard starting in cold weather
  • Check engine light

How to check

  1. Inspect the IAT sensor connector and wiring
  2. Compare IAT reading with ambient temperature on a cold engine
  3. Measure sensor resistance against the temperature table
  4. Replace the sensor if its reading does not follow temperature

Can you keep driving?

Usually safe to drive; the effect on performance is small. Repair it at your convenience.

Frequently asked questions

What does P0112 mean?
The IAT sensor circuit sends a signal that corresponds to an unrealistically high air temperature.
Is P0112 urgent?
Usually not, but fix it so the ECU can calculate fuel correctly.
