Transmission
P0741 — Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off
The torque converter clutch (TCC) is not locking up when commanded, so engine speed stays higher than expected at cruising speed. This wastes fuel and can overheat the transmission fluid.
Common causes
- Faulty TCC solenoid
- Low or dirty transmission fluid
- Worn torque converter clutch
- Clogged valve body or hydraulic fault
- Wiring or connector problem
Symptoms
- Higher fuel consumption at highway speed
- Engine RPM higher than normal while cruising
- Transmission running hot
- Check engine light
How to check
- Check the transmission fluid level and condition
- Read live TCC slip speed (engine speed minus turbine speed) on a scan tool
- Check the TCC solenoid, wiring and connector
- Test hydraulic pressure; replace the solenoid/converter if needed
Can you keep driving?
Drivable for a short time, but the transmission may overheat and fuel use rises. Repair it soon.
