P0563 — System Voltage High

The ECU measures a system voltage above the normal range. Overvoltage can damage the battery, lights and electronic modules.

Severity: Medium

Common causes

  • Faulty alternator voltage regulator
  • Loose or corroded battery or ground connection
  • Faulty battery
  • Wiring fault between alternator and battery
  • Faulty battery sensor or charging control

Symptoms

  • Very bright or burnt-out bulbs
  • Battery warning light
  • Battery overheating or smell
  • Check engine light

How to check

  1. Measure voltage at the battery with the engine running (should be about 13.8-14.7 V)
  2. Check alternator output and the regulator
  3. Inspect battery terminals and ground connections
  4. Check the battery and charging control sensor

Can you keep driving?

Not recommended for long: overvoltage can harm the battery and electronics. Have the charging system checked soon.
