Cooling system
P0480 — Cooling Fan 1 Control Circuit
The ECU detected an electrical fault in the control circuit of cooling fan 1. If the fan cannot be switched on, the engine and the air conditioning may overheat in traffic.
Common causes
- Faulty cooling fan relay
- Failed fan motor
- Blown fan fuse
- Damaged wiring or corroded connector
- Fan control module fault
Symptoms
- Engine overheating in traffic or at idle
- Air conditioning weak at standstill
- Fan running constantly or not at all
- Check engine light
How to check
- Check the fan fuse and relay
- Command the fan with a scan tool and watch it spin
- Check the wiring and connector at the fan
- Measure the supply voltage and ground, then test the fan motor
Can you keep driving?
Take care: without a working fan the engine can overheat in traffic. Watch the temperature gauge and repair it soon.
