Emission control
P0141 — O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
The heater of the downstream oxygen sensor on bank 1 is not working correctly. The sensor warms up slowly, and the ECU cannot rely on it for catalyst monitoring.
Common causes
- Failed sensor heater element
- Blown fuse or faulty relay
- Wiring open or short in the heater circuit
- Corroded connector
- Engine control module driver fault (rare)
Symptoms
- Usually no driving symptoms
- Check engine light
- Failed emissions test
- Catalyst monitor not ready
How to check
- Check the heater fuse and relay
- Measure the heater resistance at the sensor connector
- Check the supply voltage and ground
- Replace the sensor if the heater circuit is open
Can you keep driving?
Safe to drive in most cases. Repair it before an emissions inspection.
