P0341 — Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

The camshaft position sensor signal is present but does not match the crankshaft signal or the expected pattern. The ECU may mistime injection and ignition.

Severity: Medium

Common causes

  • Faulty or dirty camshaft position sensor
  • Stretched timing chain or jumped belt
  • Damaged tone wheel
  • Wiring or connector fault
  • Faulty VVT phaser

Symptoms

  • Rough idle and misfires
  • Hard starting
  • Reduced power
  • Check engine light

How to check

  1. Inspect the sensor connector, wiring and mounting
  2. Compare camshaft and crankshaft signals on a scope
  3. Check timing marks and chain/belt condition
  4. Replace the sensor if the mechanical timing is correct

Can you keep driving?

Short trips are possible, but timing problems can become serious. Have it inspected soon.

Frequently asked questions

The camshaft sensor signal does not agree with the crankshaft signal or the expected pattern.
Can a stretched timing chain cause P0341?
Yes. A stretched chain shifts the camshaft timing and can set this code.

General reference information. It does not replace a diagnosis on your own vehicle. The same code can have different causes depending on make, model year and engine; check the manufacturer's documentation or ask a technician with a scan tool.
