P0340 — Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)
The ECU receives no signal or an invalid signal from the camshaft position sensor. It uses this sensor to time fuel injection and ignition, so starting and running may be affected.
Common causes
- Faulty camshaft position sensor
- Damaged wiring, connector or harness
- Damaged camshaft tone wheel or reluctor
- Sensor not seated properly or wrong air gap
- Timing chain/belt problem
Symptoms
- Hard starting or long cranking
- Stalling
- Rough idle and reduced power
- Check engine light
How to check
- Inspect the sensor connector, wiring and mounting
- Check the sensor supply voltage and signal on a scope or scan tool
- Check the camshaft tone wheel and timing correlation
- Replace the sensor if circuit and wheel are fine
Can you keep driving?
The engine may run in a backup mode, but starting can fail without warning. Repair it soon.
