P0336 — Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance
The crankshaft position sensor signal is present but erratic or out of range compared with other signals. The ECU may lose track of engine position, causing misfires or stalling.
Common causes
- Faulty or contaminated crankshaft position sensor
- Damaged or dirty tone wheel (reluctor ring)
- Wiring or connector problem
- Incorrect sensor air gap or loose mounting
- Electrical interference
Symptoms
- Stalling or intermittent no-start
- Misfire and rough running
- Erratic tachometer
- Check engine light
How to check
- Inspect the sensor, connector and wiring
- Check the signal pattern with a scope: look for missing or irregular pulses
- Inspect the tone wheel for damaged teeth or debris
- Check the sensor mounting and replace the sensor if needed
Can you keep driving?
Not recommended: intermittent stalling is possible. Repair it soon.
