P0715 — Input/Turbine Speed Sensor A Circuit
The ECU or TCM does not get a valid signal from the transmission input (turbine) speed sensor. The transmission cannot compare input and output speeds, so shifting becomes harsh or wrong.
Common causes
- Faulty input speed sensor
- Damaged wiring or connector
- Dirty or low transmission fluid, metal debris on the sensor
- Damaged sensor ring or internal gearbox fault
- Control module fault (rare)
Symptoms
- Harsh or erratic shifting
- Gearbox stuck in one gear (limp mode)
- Speedometer or tachometer erratic
- Check engine light
How to check
- Check the transmission fluid level and condition
- Inspect the sensor connector and wiring
- Compare input speed with engine speed on a scan tool
- Replace the sensor; inspect the gearbox if debris is found
Can you keep driving?
Avoid long trips: harsh shifting and limp mode can damage the transmission. Repair it soon.

Frequently asked questions
- What does P0715 mean?
- The transmission input speed sensor is not giving a valid signal.
- Can low transmission fluid cause P0715?
- Yes. Low or dirty fluid can affect the sensor and the transmission itself.
General reference information. It does not replace a diagnosis on your own vehicle. The same code can have different causes depending on make, model year and engine; check the manufacturer's documentation or ask a technician with a scan tool.
