Evaporative emission (EVAP)
P0443 — Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit
The ECU detected an electrical fault in the EVAP purge control valve circuit, such as an open or short in the valve or its wiring. The system cannot manage fuel vapour correctly.
Common causes
- Faulty purge control valve (solenoid)
- Damaged wiring or loose connector
- Blown fuse or power supply fault
- Engine control module driver fault (rare)
- Corrosion in the connector
Symptoms
- Check engine light
- Possible rough idle or hard starting after refuelling
- Failed emissions test
- Often no other symptom
How to check
- Check the purge valve connector and wiring
- Measure the solenoid resistance and supply voltage
- Command the valve with a scan tool and listen for a click
- Replace the valve if its coil is open or shorted
Can you keep driving?
Usually safe to drive. Repair it at a convenient time.
